As a Senior Planner at RK&K, I worked with the Maryland State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) as a lead planner on the statewide Pedestrian Safety Action Plan (PSAP). The PSAP will guide pedestrian and bicycle roadway improvements throughout Maryland and also serves as MDOT SHA's required Vulnerable Road User Safety Assessment.
My work on the PSAP involved analyzing crash trends, determining areas of need, and prioritizing MDOT SHA corridors for pedestrian (and bicycle) safety improvements. All of this work necessitated close coordination with project team members and stakeholders, as well as extensive input from the community.
Ultimately, the PSAP resulted in a set of Priority Corridors that MDOT SHA has advanced for implementation of safety improvements, which are included in two rounds as of 2025:
Round 1MD 2 (Anne Arundel County), MD 650 (Prince George's County + Montgomery County), MD 410 (Prince George's County), US 1 (Howard County), and MD 150 (Baltimore County).
Round 2US 40 (Washington County), MD 201 (Prince George's County), MD 193 (Montgomery County), US 40 (Harford County), MD 3 Business (Anne Arundel County), MD 214 (Prince George's County), MD 235 (St. Mary's County), and MD 528 (Worcester County).

I produced all of the data analyses and cartography in the document. Much of the document layout and writing are also my own, although some aspects the PSAP were changed and edited after my during MDOT SHA's adoption/approval phase (after my work was completed).
