Alta Planning + Design worked on the Madison Avenue Road Diet project to improve safety on Madison Avenue (US 20) in Albany, NY between Lark Street and Manning Boulevard. The project involved a lane reduction from 4 vehicle lanes to 2 vehicle lanes and a center turn lane, in addition to improved intersection accommodations.
As the planner assigned to this project, I assisted in the development of road diet alternatives and produced the below illustrations as a way for the public and stakeholders to visualize those alternatives.
This project was implemented on Madison Avenue in summer 2016 through 2017 with a variation on the bicycle lane alternatives. Images of the implemented alternative are provided below as well.
